Alistair Darling learns about thebestofluton

As I posted recently, in our position with thebestofluton we are making something of a habit of involvement in the political action in the run up to the General Election, with national radio, TV and press journalism coming to us a couple of times a week. Last night we went up another gear, meeting with the Right Honourable Alistair Darling MP.

We were exhibiting at the University of Bedfordshire's Innovation Day, a superb event packed with top class seminars and speakers, as well as the exhibition and a little networking.

The video below shows the Chancellor asking about thebestofluton, he supported our view that a local approach to marketing for local businesses is a great boon as marketing is an often neglected area for SMEs.

I was also invited to a private meeting with Alistair Darling, Kelvin Hopkins and Gavin Shuker along with a number of University of Bedfordshire staff and other local businesspeople, so questions at the ready.... I didn't get to ask any!

No matter though, the bias of the conversation was interesting nonetheless. Given the audience, discussions centred around the Basepoint Innovation Centre (a superb Business Centre, ideal for innovative start up and established businesses alike with it's inbuilt business community and support), the funding provided by EEDA and the like, and the University contribution to the local and national economy. In all cases his support was apparent and sincere, I also picked up on his interest in smaller business support, despite this not being asked directly.

All in all, a very interesting end to a great day. Roll on the next encounter!
