Bought in 1843 by Sir Samuel Morton Peto, Somerleyton Hall and Gardens underwent extensive rebuilding and re-design.
When Peto became bankrupt, the house was sold to Sir Francis Crossley in 1863 and it remains in the hands of the Crossley family today.
