I noticed when the new government came to power they specifically mentioned the computer games industry as an important income-earner in the UK, currently contributing £1bn per year to the economy. They have even introduced tax-breaks to help grow the industry, from which we have been losing talent to companies abroad for years.
I also now notice that Loughborough College offers a dedicated course aimed at students interested in working in the games industry. This 2-year course aims to provide students with training in games design and technology, as well information about working in the games industry, the careers available and skills required.
This industry can only grow bigger as gaming becomes part of daily life for more and more people, thanks to new platforms like the Nintendo Wii. It would be great if the UK could once again be a top player in this market so well done Loughborough College for spotting the opportunity.
