The Loughborough Echo reports that parking wardens have raised £400,000 for the Council's coffers during 2009.
Regardless of whether this is right or wrong, or "over-zealous", what's more important surely is what that £400,00 is to be used for. Surely it could subsidise legal parking? Reduce car parking charges? Create some free parking spaces for people who only need to park for half an hour? If that happened, and was seen to happen, then I think most people would welcome the level of ticketing, but sadly I suspect the money raised is put to other use. Maybe someone could tell us what?
