  • The UK holiday centres market is worth an estimated £364 million and growing (Mintel 2010).
  • The UK holiday parks industry generates £3.06 billion of tourism spending per annum. This represents 14% of Britain’s entire tourism economy.
  • In the UK there are approximately 4,000 holiday parks, 498,000 touring caravans, 112,000 motor homes and 335,000 caravan holiday homes (210,000 privately owned).
  • Holiday trips outside the UK fell 15% from 2008 (46 million) to 2009 (38 million); the largest drop in 25 years.
  • In the 3 years up to the beginning of 2010, the number of nights spent by tourists in catered holiday accommodation in the UK grew by a modest 1.3% to 313 million. The nights in self-catering accommodation grew 20% to 20.8 million.
  • The higher social groups (ABC1s) and people aged 55 and above are spending increasing amounts of money on domestic holidays whereas other demographic groups are fairly flat in their spends.
