RENOVATIONS to the playground at Sutton Green Primary School have been carried out with help from Redrow – meaning pupils can enjoy more outdoor space.

The school in Little Sutton received £2,000 towards the project from Redrow’s Ledsham Garden Village Community Fund.

And for a developer committed to creating thriving communities and supporting young people, it seemed a natural fit.

Head teacher Daniel Armer explained: “We applied to Redrow’s community fund for help with works to improve the playground, which had been put on hold because of constraints on our budgets. The play equipment in the early years’ area had been out of action because the flooring below it was unsafe, but with Redrow’s help we’ve been able to replace it.

“Without Redrow’s help we probably would have to create the new playground without play equipment. It’s made a big difference to the school as it’s increased the play area for physical development and curriculum enrichment. Pupils’ enjoyment and physical fitness has improved – they love it! They are always wanting to use the outdoor space and children throughout the school want a turn too.”

Sutton Green Primary School is one of 20 projects to receive a share of £15,000 gifted to the local area by Redrow via community funds attached to Ledsham Garden Village.

The new neighbourhood will eventually feature 2,000 new homes across two developments, Oaklands and Sycamore Green.

Elaine Mounsey, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (NW), said: “Ledsham Garden Village will include 100 acres of open space, but we also recognise the importance of supporting existing facilities in the area as the neighbourhood grows. Being able to play outside is crucial to helping children stay fit, active and healthy and it’s great to see children from Sutton Green Primary School enjoying their new, improved outdoor space.”
