‘My husband treated me to a garden design concept meeting with David for Christmas. My own personal video was a really nice touch. However, I was a little unsure if I really wanted to have someone help with my garden as all my previous gardens I had managed to sort myself, and we were on a tight budget.
David spent the whole morning with me discussing my garden, my problems and what I wanted to achieve. Using photos and sketches, he made the most amazing changes and totally captured what I wanted. Susan and I struggled for over a year with how to layout the gardens, especially the large courtyard surrounded by the four derelict barns we were renovating.
We met David at the Grand Designs Exhibition and were immediately impressed with the show gardens he had designed and his easy relaxed approach, we knew we could work with him.
David came to the site and after several hours discussions with us we had a basic agreement for the design concept. Back to our house and a drawing board appeared from his car and within three hours a detailed sketch of the whole garden plot with planting schemes, terracing, materials and even the construction methods laid before us.
What had a day before been a baffling problem was now resolved and the landscaping commenced seven days later

This was such a rewarding experience for me. I had built my walls in the garden, put in the new fences, but needed help to pull the whole thing together. Up The Garden Path took what I’d already done and created a really lovely garden that I will enjoy looking after in the years to come.

We needed a fresh look at the planting in our excessively mature back garden which had also been badly affected by the winter. Our very average small front garden - lawn and a bit of border - needed a complete rethink! We were very fortunate to find David. An initial one hour no-obligation consultation stretched into three hours plus, whilst he enthusiastically suggested some possibilities, teased out our likes and dislikes, and came up with a rough future plan and cost. By the end of our next meeting with him a reshaping of the lawn had been agreed, we had looked at planting in more detail and David had sketched out new ideas for the front garden. He subsequently arranged for the landscapers who removed the dead and unwanted shrubs then put his concepts into practise most professionally adding their input to the detail of the plans. David’s creative vision, enthusiasm and encouragement, together with the liaison of the team and such friendly support from “Rachel in the office” made light work of what to us was a big commitment.The result? Drifts of colour and leaf patterns in a mixed scheme of plants/shrubs in the back garden and a lovely “glade” in the front achieved by getting rid of that patch of lawn and creating planting around an area of gravel/rocks. We can’t wait to see it all develop.

This design included a wonderfully constructed timber pergola and decking; separate dining area, a multitude of healthy, mature plants and trees, curling pathways, water features and wonderful lighting.

After meeting with 2 landscapers, I realized I needed a little more design help. I found Up the Garden Path on the internet and after checking out their website, gave them a call. Although I was told it would be a few weeks before David could see me, just chatting on the phone, I just knew they would be good. After David’s visit today, I was right, they are the ones to design my garden! David’s enthusiasm is infectious, I can’t wait for the end result.

When David visited us, we had a list of all the things we wanted our new garden to include. His clever design skills incorporated everything we asked for into one practical design, with a play area, grown up area and even somewhere for the dog! His creative skills were really put to the test, as due to extensive building work on our house at the time, the only flat surface available for him to rest his drawing materials on was the top of our washing machine! Not long now until his drawings will transform into real life as our new garden - can't wait! Definitely worth speaking to if you've got a new garden in mind - and lovely to deal with too.

David came to visit us when we where struggling with our patio design and at a bit of a loss with the many ideas we had been presented with and how to blend these with our own design criteria.
Although not able to fit us in with a full design consultation appointment in the time scale we needed, as he was so busy, he kindly gave us an hour of his time to throw some ideas at us. David's enthusiasm rubs off on you immediately and makes you feel more positive with the seemingly overwhelming problem of how to decide on the many options that run through your head. When looking at a multiplicity of ideas, pictures, magazine articles and designs from other landscaping companies, David helped to simplify the design choices and suggested several exciting ideas we had not thought of. His friendly de mina puts you at ease straight away and creates a very conducive atmosphere for bringing in all ideas, sensible, crazy or outrageous and then navigating through these and discarding the unsuitable options. David has an obvious flair for the whole spectrum of house and garden design which helps when attempting to produce a design that considers all of the aspects you are trying to bring together. Finally I would have no hesitation in recommending a consultation with "Up the Garden Path", whether for a few ideas to set you in the right direction or a full design and build project.

The plants are in the ground now and it looks great! I'll take some pics and email them to you in the next week or two but i'll also take some pics later in the summer so you have pics of what it looks like once the plants have had a chance to setlle in.

David Robinson came to our house to provide us with some expert advice on garden layout and structure. We are keen (if rather amateur) gardeners and were stumped by our slightly unusual shaped garden.

What did we hope to achieve from our consultation? brief notes and sketches with some advice on type of hard landscaping and general plant layout. We did not want a prescriptive design and 'shopping list' because we wanted some freedom to add our own touches.

Did we achieve this? absolutely! and much more! David's design is far more than a sketch, it has a lot of detail - the kind that will help us build the structures and create the spaces, suggested feature plants and feature locations.
David's commercial experience shows in the design in many ways, making the most of existing materials and utilising the spoil to minimise offsite waste (saves money on skips),
designing timber structures to commercially available standard lengths to minimise cutting and wastage.

We had a great day with David and are really pleased with the design we have, and we're looking forward to getting started on it!
We plan to undertake the important work ourselves and sub-out some of the remaining tasks.

Value for money? Absolutely, we chose a half-day consultation - we paid for just half a day and feel that we received a whole day of value.

We are delighted with our new patio. David Robinson, the designer, provided us with an imaginative and thoughtful layout and a clear and certain timetable and price structure. Both initial and detailed design meetings were conducted imaginatively and professionally, but the real design flair became apparent as the project changed due to alterations caused by building works. We experienced some problems due to being let down by a contractor but UTGP quickly replaced the contractor and the problem was solved. After sales service was excellent to the point that UTGP are overseeing future maintanance and improvement and I will be asking them to do further designs for me.

Just to say thanks for the excellent job that you have done in redesigning my front garden. You have taken it from a rough piece of turf to a showpiece that has attracted a lot of attention and amazing comments. Having moved into the house, which needed a lot doing to it, I can honestly say this is one of the best investments that I have ever made. My house now has real ‘curb appeal’ and it has certainly added value to the property and to the whole development in Harrington Walk. David was brilliant when he designed the garden for our self build home in 2002. We knew we had found the right company when some of the inspirational photographs we showed him were of his award winning garden at Tatton RHS show. He interpreted our brief beyond our dreams.
