Welcome to National Memorial Arboretum

A much visited attraction and day out near Lichfield, the National Memorial Arboretum is a special place, a living museum to the honour of those who serve and have served their country.

National Memorial Arboretum

The National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas, near Lichfield, is a special place that honours our armed and civil services and commemorates those who have died in the service of our country.

Conceived by Commander Childs, CBE as a focal point for remembrance in the UK, we first opened our doors to the public in 2001. Set in 50 acres of landscaped grounds, the National Memorial Arboretum already has over 50,000 young trees planted and 160 separate memorials, including the now familiar central Armed Forces Memorial, where visiting royalty alongside families of fallen service people have paid their respects.

A Place for Everyone

Everybody has their own reasons for visiting; whether it be to remember and honour loved ones, learn something of the history of our country or simply to enjoy the acres of open space with family and friends, and all are welcome.

We also have mobility aids, family facilities and a team of willing volunteers to help you make the most of your visit. Indeed we are proud to have been awarded the Queen’s Award for Volunteers  in 2010, in recognition of the customer care and service provided by our 300 volunteers.

A Family Day Out

The NMA is welcoming to families and is a great day out. If you live in or around Lichfield and you haven’t visited us then come along and bring the kids. Whilst it is a place of remembrance, it is not solemn or forbidding. There’s plenty of activities and acres of space for the children along with specific activities and learning materials which will engage their thoughts and keep them occupied. There’s also a fantastic children’s play area, picnic and a café and restaurant for lunch and snacks.
