Following last year’s popular event, our city centre cycling races have grown, and on top of the youth events adult races and beginner races for all ages have been added.
The youth category cycling races incorporate the West Midlands Championships. It’s a great time for cycling as a sport, especially as we draw closer to the London Olympics, in which the medal expectations are high for the British Cycling teams.
In another first for racing in Lichfield this year the athletics events are added.
This year’s event is also helping to raise funds for the 3rd Battalion the Mercian Regiment. The regiment, which has its origins in Lichfield, is currently serving in Afghanistan. The money raised today through street collections will be used to support injured soldiers and their families.
