The Rainbow Inn opened its doors as a pub (actually a beer house) at some stage in the mid 1700s, before that it was almost certainly a coaching house and shop. The Rainbow Inn remains both an important part of the local community and also a beacon of excellence that attracts people from much further afield.
The Rainbow Inn is a traditional country pub with a fine restaurant. To the rear of the most attractive 18th century building is a secluded courtyard with a purpose built barbeque area. There is also a large enclosed back garden with charming views over the South Downs. Additionally, the pub has 3 stylish private dining rooms for special occasions or business meetings & entertaining.
Everyone is most welcome at The Rainbow Inn. Whether they come in for a quick drink in the bar, a light snack or a celebration dinner in the fine dining restaurant all customers are made to feel relaxed by the friendly and professional staff. In winter log fires help create a cosy and inviting atmosphere. Children are well catered for too with a special kids menu, high chairs and a small selection of toys and drawing games.
The Rainbow Inn is beautifully situated just outside the village of Cooksbridge nr Lewes and nestles on the edge of the South Downs, 20 minutes from Brighton and 10 minutes from Lewes. It is only a short distance from Plumpton Racecourse and Glyndebourne Opera House.
About Our Food
The Rainbow inn offers fine dining in a relaxed pub atmosphere. The food is, wherever possible, locally sourced, seasonal and in the majority of cases organic or free range. In the shooting season the local estate supplies venison, pheasant, partridge and wild duck, amongst other things.
At other times items such as line caught seabass, crab and lobster are supplied by a small number of tried and trusted fishermen from the local Sussex coastline.
Wines
The Rainbow Inn has an extensive wine list with many inexpensive alternatives as well as a fine selection of Burgundies and Clarets. Prices start at £13.50 and there are at least 6 good value wines by the glass. Harvey's bitter is always available alongside a regularly changing guest ale.
