A simple enough message, yet what makes our charity so unique is how we use fun and happiness to provide opportunities for the long term development of children and young people living in difficult and challenging circumstances.
Many of the children we help have learning, health or physical difficulties, while others face less obvious challenges.
- Over 23,000 children every year seek shelter from domestic violence.
- 75,000 children are known to care for a dependant sibling or parent.
- More than 20,000 children are diagnosed with life limited illnesses every year – their siblings suffer too!
- 1 in 100 children are born disabled.
- An estimated 4 million children suffer as a result of rural and / or social isolation
- Over 3.5 million children live in low income houses.
Whatever their background, the children and young people we support need fun and happiness in their lives. By providing the opportunities and experience to help them develop into happy, confident adults, KidsOut, Leighton Buzzard is helping to transform the lives and wellbeing of children all over the UK.
A Potted History
KidsOut, Leighton Buzzard first came into being in 1990 when 200 special needs children were taken for a day out at Thorpe Park thanks to Littlewoods and a group of very dedicated Rotarians.
By 2000, KidsOutbecame a registered national charity with more than 20,000 disadvantaged children from all over the UK enjoying the KidsOutDay Out.
In 2002 KidsOutexpanded it’s services with it’s Funds-4-Fun grant scheme which today receives more than 2,000 enquiries a year.
In 2005 KidsOut undertook comprehensive research into the launch of a national network of Multi Media Mobile Centres to address the problems of social isolation. The resulted in five KidsOutmobile centres and one static centre being made available for young people living in rural and isolated communities.
In 2006 KidsOut piloted it’s Box of Delights Toy Box Scheme. 7,000 boxes are required every year to fulfil the need for re-housed children.
In 2007 a new logo was launched to illustrate a dynamic, fun and energetic charity for which fun and happiness is at the heart of it’s mission to transform the lives of disadvantaged children and young people throughout the uk.
Today, KidsOut helps more than 60,000 children and their families every year.

To fulfil our mission we need as much help as we can get. But it’s not always about money. Your time can be just as valuble. Time spent fundraising, for example, by organizing a local quiz night, coffee morning or bring and buy sale. Being part of a national network of community fundraisers means you will be making a difference to children and young people in your region, as well as all over the UK.
