As recently reported in the Coventry Telegraph, A BRAIN injury rehabilitation unit in Leamington has been named one of the top ten of its kind in the country.

The neuro rehabilitation service at Royal Leamington Spa Rehabilitation Hospital helps patients with complex needs that local services cannot cater for.

Patients from neighbouring counties regularly travel to the unit for treatment. It is among ten units awarded level one status for the next six months, after which it will be assessed again.

Sue Bleasdale, acting general manager for acquired brain injury services, said the team was thrilled and was already working to improve even further and ensure it retains its status.

The rehabilitation service in Leamington was launched nearly 20 years ago to support adults with brain injuries. Patients are cared for by a specialist team and the hospital boasts glowing patient feedback.

The hospital is run by South Warwickshire Foundation Trust, which invested £500,000 in extra staff to reach level one status.

This is the first stage of a three step plan, which will also develop services to support more patients at home and expand the unit to help more inpatients.

Chief executive Glen Burley said he was delighted the team had been recognised for its hard work providing excellent care.
