Holsworthy Museum is a small, local museum with themed displays including Holsworthy town, local railway, agriculture, medical and apothecary, local craftsmen and the two World Wars. It also has local archives containing photographs and documents relating to the locality. The museum manages the local history unit (Peter Bakel room) on behalf of the town council, and acts as a service point for the Devon Record Office.
However, the museum is "manned" completely by volunteers who give their time freely for the benefit of the Town. There is a relatively small but enthusiastic and committed team of volunteers helping visitors and locals explore and experience the history of Holsworthy and the surrounding district. The role of our volunteers is to support the Museum, bringing enthusiasm and community involvement into the heart of what we do, sharing history and memories of the town with visitors and residents
The present team would welcome some additions to take on some of the work load, it isn't onerous and the commitment can possibly just be one or two days per month. If you are interested come along and meet the team at the museum and give it a try. Remember it is only with the dedication of local volunteers that the Museum can continue to be an important source of local history and information.
