Dual Aspect Provides Focus For Solo Exhibition
Artist Graham Lowe brings together two aspects of his work for the first time at his new solo exhibition in his home town of Lancaster.
Middle Ground is the second exhibition of the year at The Dukes gallery which presents work by some of the region's top artistic talent. It runs from January 31-February 18.
Graham's exhibition showcases two aspects of his painting: a new collection of pastel works that focus on landscape paintings of a meditative nature alongside recently completed still life works.
He explained how the two strands of his work link: "My abstracted landscape paintings explore the poetic use of a colour, shape and form. While these works are abstracted there are references to the northern landscape with features such as field patterns, dry stone walls, way markers, rocky outcrops and standing stones.
"Over the past year I have become increasingly interested in still life painting, celebrating the beauty of light falling on simple everyday objects, always striving to create painterly images with the challenge of achieving the perfect balance between form and content."
Graham curated Made in Lancaster, an exhibition of works by local artists, at The Dukes gallery last summer. He has exhibited his art in solo and group shows across the north of England, including at Durham Light Infantry Museum and Gallery; Towneley Hall Art Gallery, Burnley; The Tullie House Gallery, Carlisle, and at The Brewery in Kendal.
Graham is well known across the district, not only as an exhibiting artist but also for his work as a community artist and as an art tutor in adult education.
The Dukes gallery is open from 10am to 11pm, Monday to Saturday. Please call the box office on 01524 598500 to check opening times if you're making a special journey as occasionally the space is closed to the public.
