Morecambe Lifeboat Station Morecambe
An inshore lifeboat station was opened at Morecambe in 1966 with a D class lifeboat housed ILB station purpose built on the promenade. Since that time they have been presented with eleven awards for gallantry.
Morecambe is only one of four stations throughout the UK who operate a rescue hovercraft alongside conventional lifeboats. The first rescue hovercraft became operational on 23rd December 2002 and was named The Hurley Flyer as she was donated by Kay Hurley MBE.
