Moidul's Hampton Wick Tandoori - A magnificent recently opened Kingston eatery is bringing both a breath of fresh air and a host of mouth-watering aromas to the streets of Hampton Wick, just close to Kingston, South West London.
Eager to find out what everyone is talking about, my partner and I arrive early one evening at the Hampton Wick Tandoori, where charismatic owner and multi award-winning chef Moidul Hussein directs us to our table.

Inside the restaurant neatly napped tables with fresh flowers on each emphasise a casual air of grace and elegance. Well turned-out staff in their smart black and white livery glide effortlessly across a dining area suffused in exotic shades of red. A background buzz of upbeat conversation rises as the restaurant begins to fill.

Moidul guides us through his self-designed menu, a sophisticated take on the exquisite home-cooked cuisines of Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and Nepal. He believes in healthy eating where taste is never compromised and only the finest, freshest ingredients used.

Lamb Tawaii arrives sizzling at our table
Having ordered, we don't have long to wait for our food. With great aplomb kitchen doors are flung open, heads turn and a mouth-watering aromatic Lamb Tawaii arrives sizzling at our table.
Hot, baby, hot and seriously tasty!
To accompany this most dramatic of dishes, we dip into a selection of warm housemade breads, well-fluffed rice and a delightfully light Indian summer salad (fresh Bengali charcoal-grilled prawns nestling on a bed of seasonal leafy green vegetables - delightful!), before turning our attention to the Jaal Maal, another Moidul signature dish. This time succulent chicken is cooked to Madras strength, using just the right amount of naga chilli to quicken the pulse. Verdict? Hot, baby, hot and seriously tasty!
Not just friendly - veggie friendly too
Of the many vegetarian options on offer, two of the more exotic and tasty must be Tilapia - a succulent Bangladeshi sweetwater fish - and Ayr - a type of catfish similar to that featured on TV's Extreme Fishing. For the true vegetarian however - and indeed everyone else - the sizzling Vegetable Kazana looks a magnificent choice.
Absolutely unique!
Regarding the wine list; despite there being a great selection of wines and well chosen champagnes is on hand, I nevertheless find my eye being drawn to the eclectic One World Bar, where Mongolian vodka from Harrods rubs shoulders with Ugandan banana gin and a Courvoisier L'Esprit cognac at £7,000 per bottle. Absolutely unique!
As we turn to depart the night is still young, with candles only just lit. Despite the restaurant being full, a cosy intimacy has enveloped the dining area and my partner and I are sorry to leave. We choose not to look back, preferring instead to look forward to our next visit to this delightful restaurant, Moidul's Hampton Wick Tandoori.
Special Express and Executive Lunches are available weekdays, and buffets on a Sunday. Reservations always recommended. We also offer an indian take away service.
