Imraan Ladak has pulled out of any deal to buy Rothwell Town Football Club.
Poppies fans had guessed that Mr Ladak wanted to use Rothwell Town's ground to negotiate the future of the club's own ground in Rockingham Road.
But Mr Ladak said that a proposed deal over the Rothwell site has broken down – leaving him to focus on sorting out the issues at Rockingham Road.
He said: "Kettering Town can't die as a football club – I won't let that happen."
He also claimed the price of the land had doubled.
Mr Ladak believes he can help get Kettering Town promoted to the Football League, even though the club is ineligible to compete in the Conference play-offs and get into the Football League without a long-term ground lease.
He said: "The clock is running but I think we have viable plans to solve this issue any chance of staying at Rockingham Road is going to be in the hands of the current landlord so we need to make sure there is an attractive option for him."
