Telefitters, established in 1965, is one of the oldest Jersey companies specialising in the installation Television aerials, satellite and visual and audio communications
The options open to TV viewers has certainly changed over the years. When Telefitters was first established in Jersey viewers were restricted to just two TV channels; now there are hundreds available on satellite. During all this time from the early sixties through to the recent introduction of High Definition Television broadcast from Sky, Telefitters have been there to help ensure that Jersey viewers obtained the best reception possible. The company has grown from a one man band to employing and training many of today's installers .
Telefitters began trading in 1965, initially focussing on terrestrial aerials to support the two channels being broadcast on 405 lines in the VHF band, BBC1 and ITV. During the next few years , with tourism then being a major factor in the Island's economy, the requirement for the installation of Hotel Systems, TV and room to reception intercom were in demand .
In the mid-70s the Company was a major player in enabling Jersey residents to receive colour television.. With the colour signal BBC 2 was introduced , all of which was broadcast on 625 lines in the UHF band. A different type of antenna was required with a changeover to all VHF aerials.
During the 80s, Channel four had arrived and the beginning of analogue satellite broadcasts began, with the company being ideally experienced for the installations of these new
systems.
After satellite broadcasts became digital in '98 the company has focused on the installation of all related systems, whether it be commercial, domestic or large blocks of apartments. Telefitters is now the preferred installer of Sky systems, Freeview and Freesat for St. Helier technology retailer , Fotosound.
On behalf of the States of Jersey, the Company undertook the contract for upgrading over three thousand units of accommodation enabling the tenants to receive a digital signal for the Digital Switchover event. Other residential works includes the installation of wall hanging televisions and Home Theatre systems. Commercial works include contracts taken on behalf the States of Jersey and local builders in the field of digital communications for both audio and TV signals.
