Welcome to Royal Hospital School

One of Ipswich and Suffolk's most well-known and respected independent schools

FOR an Independent School offering first-class teaching and facilities, the Royal Hospital School at Holbrook, near Ipswich is the perfect choice.

Set in safe and beautiful surroundings only five miles from the busy Suffolk town of Ipswich and one hour from London by train, the Royal Hospital School is regarded as one of Suffolk's best independent schools. Also within easy reach are the ferry port of Harwich, and Stansted, Luton, Gatwick and Heathrow Airports.

Originally established as a school for children of naval families, it has a unique maritime heritage. Pupils are proud of their links with the sea and as a result all new pupils joining in Year 7 learn to sail, key naval events are celebrated and all take part in spectacular formal parades that generate tremendous pride amongst pupils and parents alike. There are also means-tested bursaries available for families with a seafaring background through the Schools' parent charity Greenwich Hospital.

The School does not just produce reputable academic achievement, but it is nationally renowned for its music, has exceptional sports facilities including RYA sailing tuition, a popular Combined Cadet Force and Community Action Team, outstanding art, design and technology and an activity programme that keeps children inspired and busy. It is a happy place and pupils have a real sense of belonging.

In 2010 the A-C pass rate for GCSE pupils was 95.6% and an outstanding 40% of all A Level Papers were graded A*/A..

Girls and boys perform equally well and all leave the school with a sense of achievement both academically and in sport, the arts and other extra curricular activities. Pupils are guided during their time at the school by their teachers, house masters or mistresses and personal tutors and grow to become well rounded, socially adept, confident and enthusiastic individuals.

The School is has undergone a multi-million pound development programme over the past 5 years including Junior and Senior Houses and a new music school.
