Watch out! There's a thief about! Well, a Microsoft fraudster anyway.

If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from Microsoft Product Support (or similar) urgently and credibly suggesting that your PC is full of spyware and viruses, and that you should go to a website and put in a code they give, PLEASE HANG UP IMMEDIATELY. They are fraudsters trying to scam your card details and any other identity info they can get.

Why do I know this?

1) Microsoft NEVER make such calls.

2) these people are very credible.

3) I have had 3 clients caught out this way in the last few weeks. One had a clone of his credit card used in the far east within 2 hours of passing details over.

4) they are targeting Suffolk. I have had a further 8 or more clients report these calls in the last week.

5) in the most recent case this Saturday the unfortunate lady had given all card details before they asked for passwords and she finally got suspicious.

Please pass this warning to anyone you know, especially if they are an older computer user. The fraudsters seem to prefer silver surfers!

Hi Kevin. We live in Stanton near Bury St Edmunds. My partner owns a driving school, so obviously the telephone number is advertised far and wide. We received one of these calls yesterday. The caller said his name was Adam and he was 'phoning from Microsoft. He had reason to believe that we had downloaded a virus but needed us to log in so that he could check our computer. Thank goodness it was my partner who answered the call and not one of my teenage children, who may well have fallen for the scam and done as "Adam" had requested. Tina report abuse...
