On Thursday 4 November Ipswich Borough Council and Ipswich Council for Voluntary Services are holding a free Voluntary Action and Awareness Day. The event, to be opened by the Mayor of Ipswich - Councillor Jane Chambers, will held at Grafton House, Russell Road, from 11am - 2:30pm is for Ipswich & District residents to find out more about the voluntary sector and volunteering.

Local charities and community groups will be represented at the event, promoting the various volunteering opportunities they currently have. Volunteering is an integral part of the Ipswich community, with Volunteer Ipswich already having processed over 1000 enquiries, most of which were people making contact for the first time. This volume of enquiries helps enormously to meet the target of generating 2010 Ipswich volunteer stories in 2010.

Kirk Jackson, Support & Development Officer for Volunteer Ipswich, says, “There is huge variety of volunteering opportunities available in Ipswich, and volunteering can be fun and exciting! We want this event to highlight all the great voluntary work currently happening in Ipswich, but also to show there is a constant need for volunteers and placements.”
