Pole Position
In the past, pole dancing has been largely confined to the world of lap dancing bars and night clubs.
However,in recent years, it has been attracting a steady stream of women keen to improve their fitness, flexibility and have fun at the same time.
A number of dance studios and gyms throughout the country are now offering pole dancing alongside the more traditional classes, such as aerobics and step. But can pole dancing successfully shimmy out of its sleazy image of the past and into the mainstream fitness world?
It certainly appears to be doing so, as more and more women are taking up this refreshing and fun way af getting, and keeping, fit.
Pole dancers not only remark on the physical benefits they reap, but the psychological ones too. Any physical exertion has a positive mental effect due to the endorphins (natural pain blockers) exercise produces. But many practising pole dancers insist they feel increased confidence afterwards - not to mention the confidence it must take to swing life and limb around a slippery metal pole in the first place.
One of Hull's leading exponents of pole dancing as a major form of exercise is Pole 4 Fitness, based on Anlaby Road.
Pole 4 Fitness will shortly be running "Taster" sessions, which is a chance to try before you buy. The session will be taken by Clare the club owner and you will get to have a play on the poles, have a look around the club, meet other instructors and members and just get a feel of the place to see if it is for you.
Places are limited and you don't have to join, no pressure!
You will need your kit as Clare will do a mini class for you to try. You will also get a chance to see what you can achieve as Clare & the team will demo some seemingly impossible moves that you will soon be performing with the best of them! If you are really apprehensive then please feel free to just watch.
