Hull Museums Attracted 500,000 Visitors in 2009!

Great news - More than half a million people visited Hull City Council's museums and art gallery in 2009! These were the best visitor figures since 1994 and local museums are keen to achieve an even higher result in 2010. This really reflects Hull's vibrancy as a city full to the brim with arts, culture and plenty of things to see and do.

Staff at the eight free museums and art galleries are attributing the rise in visitors to a new focus on creating and attracting the right events and exhibitions, a idea that will benefit local people and keep them coming back for more.

To put the figures into perspective, the 500,000 visitors equals everyone in Hull visiting one of the council's museums or galleries twice in 2009!

Even better, 85 per cent of those visitors rated the museums and gallery as excellent or good, so why not pay a visit yourself?

Portfolio holder for image and culture Councillor John Robinson said: "This really is an excellent result for the museums and gallery, with them attracting visitors from inside and outside the immediate area.It has been a year of successful events and exhibitions and shows that Hull has a lot to offer in the way of culture which can make a big difference to people's lives through learning and leisure and also to the economy by attracting visitors to the city centre."
