Since opening in 1987 in Dalton, Huddersfield, Kirkwood Hospice has been an invaluable resource to the people of the Kirklees area.
It is a charitable organisation which provides treatment, care and support for those facing a life-threatening illness from which they will not recover. The hospice also provides support for families, friends and carers.
Kirkwood Hospice is a charity which serves the local people of Huddersfield and Kirklees. It respects individual needs and wishes, caring for each person to help them achieve the best possible quality of life.
The services
Kirkwood Hospice provides specialist palliative care. The clinical team of nurses, doctors and other health care professionals treat the physical symptoms of the illness whilst also providing emotional and spiritual support when needed.
As well as providing treatment on site, Kirkwood Hospice also supports patients who would like to continue living at home with specialist help, advice and care.
Families, friends and carers are offered additional support and help during the patient's illness and in bereavement.
Kirkwood Hospice is unable to add days to life, but strives to add life to days.
By listening to patients and having a flexible approach to caring, Kirkwood Hospice aims to meet each patient's particular needs and wishes, helping them to make the most of the time they have left.
Facilities
The hospice includes:
16 in-patient beds
Support & Therapy Centre providing day care services and a drop-in facility
Family Care Centre offering support and bereavement services
"Kirkwood Koalas" - dedicated help for bereaved children
Education Centre providing palliative care education and training
Access to care and advice including a telephone helpline which is available 24/7/365
As a charity, all of the care at Kirkwood Hospice, Huddersfield is given free of charge.

Kirkwood Hospice is charitable organisation and only receives a fraction of its costs from the local Primary Care Trusts. The shortfall is made up by generous donations and help from local individuals, companies and organisations.
