Information Services in Hitchin
Located in a purpose-built, accessible property close to Hitchin town centre’s various amenities, Hitchin Library is run by Hertfordshire County Council to provide the most up to date and relevant information services, books, CDs and DVDs. A range of online services and a suite of computers to access them make this library a haven of resources.
One surprisingly little know fact is that there is more to the library than what can been seen on its shelves. Membership also gives you access to a growing collection of ebooks and audio books than can be downloaded to your computer at home, and an impressive electronic reference library. In addition there is a collection of over 100 magazines than can be downloaded – things like New Scientist, for example, which would normally cost over £500 to subscribe to. You get the full magazine, with all the illustrations, using a system called Zinio. The only downside is that all of these services use different applications and can be slightly fiddly to set up, but they are all well worth the effort.
