I just wanted to tell you, a little late - but hey ho, that we really enjoyed our pre-Christmas dinner and your boast that it was restaurant quality at pub prices was spot on!
Our friends, who accompanied us, had sampled several pre-Christmas dinners at different local establishments, remarked that The Victoria was the BEST! One of our friends had the belly pork and then had the same the following day at an establishment that sits at the junction of Walsworth Road and Verulam Road and again, your's was the best.

Please pass this on to your chef and anybody else who deserves praise.

We just wanted to drop you a line to say thank you so much to you and your staff for the wonderful buffet you provided for our son's christening last Sunday.

It was a perfect day with great weather and a superb venue. Both Hannah and I are so glad we chose the Victoria and the Barn, it was ideal and everyone has contacted us since to say what a great venue. Both young and old had a great time and that was due to the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of the 'vic'.

The food was first class and so many people have commented it was one of the best buffets they have ever had- the mini yorkshires were a real hit! Having been to a function the previous week at the Priory I can tell you they are not a patch on your catering.

Please pass on our thanks to Holly, she must have walked a marathon that day and your barman (can't remember his name) but he was so good, nothing was too much. You all really made the day!

We were so pleased and will happily recommended the Victoria to our friends.

Just a wee note to say well done for hosting a most well presented and enjoyable Burn's Night.
I shared Robin's thoughts on your barn being a great venue for such an event, with such closer proximity people can't help but join in & participate. Also the food was great, and served by such friendly staff.

I'd be interested to find out if you'd managed to clear the tables aside & have a bit of dancing to finish - where there's a will...

I really liked the reduced formality of your event, and consider it to be one of the most fun & enjoyable Burn's Nights I've been at in a long time. I'll be keeping an eye on your events list & aim to bring some friends to one of them in the near future.

We can't recommend the Vic enough! The staff are so friendly - they always go out of your way to make sure all your needs are catered for - thanks to the land lady Vic, who's customers always come first.

It's one of those great pubs that you can go to all year round. If its rainy and cold you can snuggle up infront of the fire with some hot soup. If its hot, there is the lovely terraced garden and they always do an amazing BBQ. The good thing is there is always something going on -you can sign up to their facebook group to see events and the Monday night menu.

The new barn extension is amazing too, Vic went out of her way to style the barn with candles to make it romantic for my wedding anniversary and we've also been to private parties there. The barn is a great venue to hire for a small party, especially in the summer with the garden! One of the best pubs in Hitchin!

I had a great time in The Vic last night, good company and a fine service by the lads behind the bar. My friends and I became addicted to your beef jerky, bought about 5-6 bags of the stuff. It's good to see that you treat your smokers well, with a outdoor heater, comfortable seats and shelter from the rain. Your pub and The Highlander are my favourite haunts in Hitchin. Top marks for The Vic :)

I use the Victoria for my book group meetings once a month on a Monday. We come for the supper club - it's always yummy and very reasonably priced. We initially thought about having the meetings in people's houses but since our first visit, have felt so comfortable here that we don't want to go anywhere else! We really appreciate the friendly service and I'd love to come more often, but with little kids I can't - and I have to say I'd probably rather go to a bar rather than a pub out of choice, even this one (until you serve martinis!). The pub is still quite old-manny in it's decor (and this is why I avoided it for 3 years since moving round the corner - I never realised it wasn't an old man pub!), but you get used to it and then it seems to suit it. I know the pub has a loyal following and as a newcomer I appreciate not being made to feel like an outsider.

i love the victoria for many reasons... it is, in essence the only real 'pub' pub in hitchin. It is run by warm friendly staff with a welcome second to none, and has a truly family atmosphere. The place is not frequented by regulars, but by friends, and everyone is always treated as such, and, in turn, has the same feeling themselves. The food is wonderful, and the entertainment laid on is always fantastic.... many a great night has been had in the vic!! Victoria is ALWAYS striving to be the best, and as a result, is!! The management and staff obliging and always try to accommodate, whatever is asked of them. I particularly enjoy the outside events, where local,new and old bands are showcased, offering us great music from all genres, whilst we partake of the great food that is served in a great, almost family party type atmosphere. fantastic!! The victoria always offers a wonderful evening, whther you are out for a good old knees up or just a quiet drink.....wouldnt go any else. whether its a celebratory drink or a comiseratory one, or just the 'we need to go out for one' drink, its the place we always gravitate to, infact thats exactly where me and a few of my girlies will be in an hour or 2....having a long overdue catch up drink, where???

The Vic pub is quite simply the friendliest pub in the jewel in the crown of N. Herts and deserves the award because landlady Victoria also does more than her share to promote other businesses, sourcing her food locally, promoting events around the town and being prepared to drop everything when you need a hand - well, not everything, but you know what I mean.

For me, the Victoria is what Hitchin is all about - Understated, caring, community based, cosy - not too showy with a Sixth form common room kinda vibe! Just like a true best mate, they invite you for dinner on a Monday night and are just down the road when you need them!
My favourite night ever, twas the weekend before Christmas, the snow laid deep and crisp and even and the place was rocking! The windows were all steamed up and the only thing visable was the faint twinkle of the Christmas lights. We opened the door, and BAM! Christmas had started early!

The Victoria is the perfect place for a drink with friends! Its got a great atmosphere howwever, it doesnt have music booming out so you can actually have a conversation! And get a seat most of the time. its a great regulars pub but its not 'clichy' and they always have events on which gives you a reason to go and attracts new people too.
