Dating back to 1450, Redcoats Fine Dining Restaurant near Hitchin is one of the leading English restaurants, country restaurants, hotel restaurants and fine dining restaurants in the region.
Set in four acres of gardens on the outskirts of Hitchin, Redcoats Fine Dining Restaurant is a family run hotel and restaurant with an exceptional reputation in the area.
Upmarket yet approachable, generations of families from across Hertfordshire and further afield have been dining and celebrating in our farmhouse hotel's restaurant for over 25 years.
Redcoats Fine Dining Restaurant has been awarded AA 3 stars with a rosette every year since 2003.
We are incredibly proud of our reputation for quality, traditional British cuisine with a contemporary twist. Game is a particular speciality, with a wide range of locally sourced meats on offer throughout the season.

Our Menus
Redcoats' Head Chef and his skilled team create a range of seasonal menus, inspired by the very best fresh ingredients the UK has to offer.
Bacon is sourced from a butcher who raises his own pigs, we only use free range eggs and local honey and we're famed for our cheese board, featuring award-winning English and French handmade cheeses.
Choose from our A La Carte, Weekday, Sunday Lunch and Supper menus, featuring:
- Redcoats Pâté Platter - Chicken Liver and Brandy Pâté, Duck Mousse 'Des Fois Gras' and Farmhouse Pork Terrine, served with Chutney and Warm Toast
- Warm Salad of Local Pigeon Breast, Wild Mushrooms, Pousse Spinach, Puy Lentils and Sherry Demiglaze
- Venison Fillet 'Au Poivre' with Peppercorns, Brandy and Cream Sauce
- Steak and Kidney Pie with Homemade Shortcrust Pastry
- Chateaubriand, served with Goose Fat Chips and Béarnaise, Au Poivre and Shallot, Red Wine and Wild Mushroom Sauces
- Roast Partridge, carved and served with a Crouton, Bread Sauce, Game Chips, Game Gravy and Watercress
A two course lunch starts at just £17.50; a four course A La Carte meal is just £42 per person.
Sunday Lunch at Redcoats Fine Dining Restaurant
Sunday Lunch at Redcoats is a warm, welcoming, relaxed family affair and can get very busy, so please book in advance to avoid disappointment.
Our Sunday Lunch dishes are served with fresh, seasonal vegetables and include:
- Medium Rare Roast Sirloin of Scottish Beef
- Roast Loin of Pork
- Steak and Kidney Pie
- Fresh Fish

Wine Cellar
With a carefully chosen selection of over 200 bins from across the worlds, Redcoats Fine Dining Restaurant's wine cellar is well known for quality yet affordability.
If you are on a budget, why not choose one of our 30 wines under £30 or order by the glass?
Many of our guests also choose to finish the evening with a coffee and a 'wee dram' of one of our malt whiskies, liqueurs and cognacs.

We had an excellent lunch at Redcoats Farmhouse Hotel & Restaurant on 25th February. It was my 65th Birthday and my daughter came with our grandchildren - 2 years old and 8 weeks old. The hotel staff were so friendly and helpful - it was a pleasure.
Nice selection of starters (delicious pate). Excellent service - discreet but efficient. Relaxing ambience - plenty of space around the tables in the conservatory. Delicious desserts especially the creme brulee. We will come again!
We have lunched, dined and had our wedding breakfast at Redcoats for in excess of 22 years. They never fail to deliver. The addition of lunch on Saturday makes the experience complete. Thank you.

Redcoats is a restaurant & hotel in a beautiful bit of countryside just outside Hitchin. I've always enjoyed eating there, particularly in their sunny conservatory, but I've just been reminded of how nice a place it is to visit as we went for lunch last sunday. It's just a perfect combination of exceptionally good food, attentive, friendly staff and a lovely setting. You do have to book early though as it's popular....

We wanted to say the biggest thank you for al of your hard work and help. Everyone who stayed over absolutely loved the hotel with beautiful rooms, fantastic staff and a warm welcoming atmosphere. The breakfast was hearty, just what we all needed after a great night. Liz, a special thanks for accomodating all our demands and to the big boss for letting my dad prop the bar up into the early hours.
