Welcome to the Hertford blog.

This weekend sees the final golf major of the year take place over in the US.  Expect the next 4 nights to be late affairs as play is live on Sky Sports from 6pm.

But who’s going to win?  The last 6 majors have been won by European and South African players only, with the last American winner being Phil Mickelson at the US Masters in 2010.  While this may not seem long ago, by American standards it’s a lifetime.  This gap of non winning American players has definitely been one of the longest certainly in recent history.

Since the demise of the great but troubled Tiger Woods (who hasn’t won a major since 2008) the US hasn’t really had an outright contender for majors and is falling drastically behind Europe in particular.  But things are beginning to look on the up across the pond.  With a wealth of young players emerging as real threats for any tournament they enter.

Names such as Anthony Kim, Hunter Mahan and Rickie Fowler appear set to become household names like their for fathers Tiger Woods, Ernie Ells and Mickelson did not that long ago.  With Rory McIlroy and his non American colleagues already enjoying that status with their recent successes the future is looking bright for American golf and golf as a general sport.

To enjoy a round of golf at the beautiful Hertfordshire Golf and Country Club why not give them a call on 01992 827074 or visit their feature right here on the best of Hertford.  The last 6 holes of the Jack Nicklaus II designed course are thought to be the best around, and coupled with amazing park and grasslands within the grounds of The Broxbournebury Mansion, The Hertfordshire is certainly the place to enjoy the remainder of the summer.
