Stop Blaming Others and Start Marketing Your Local Business: The Power of Being Proactive

As local business owners, we all know how tough it can be to stay afloat in a highly competitive market. Unfortunately, not all business owners realize the importance of proactive marketing, and this lack of effort can lead to the downfall of their businesses.

I recently learned of two businesses that closed down on a small parade close to where I live - a café and a nail bar. What surprised me was that both businesses had zero marketing efforts. They simply opened their doors and hoped for the best. When they didn't attract customers, they blamed everyone else but themselves for their demise.

The truth is, marketing doesn't have to be expensive. You don't need to take out radio ads or pay for billboards. Instead, take advantage of social media platforms like Facebook. With just a few clicks, you can reach thousands of potential customers in your area.

For example, the owner of the nail bar could have searched for local women, local mum's groups, or businesses with a large female workforce and offered special deals or discounts. The cafe owner could have approached local businesses with delivery services and other offers to attract more customers.

But sadly, many local business owners still believe in the famous movie line, "If you build it, they will come." This level of thinking is complete bollocks. You need to make sure the world knows about your business and the services you offer.

Marketing requires a bigger investment of time and creativity than it does of cash. You need to stay proactive and keep up with the latest marketing trends and techniques. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that just opening your doors is enough. You need to be creative and persistent in your marketing efforts to stay ahead of the competition.

So take a moment to reflect on your marketing efforts. Are you being proactive enough? Do you have a solid plan to attract more customers? Remember, a little creativity and effort can go a long way in ensuring the success of your business.
