As a landlord  there are certain things you must do to comply with the law. However, there's a big difference between best practice and the minimum that's legally required.

With this in mind a guide to best practice for landlords has been published by The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). This cross-industry Private Rented Sector Code of Practice promotes best practice in the letting and management of housing in England. Its three main aims are to ensure:

- That good quality homes are available for rent;
- Consistent and high standards of property management;
- Consumer choice.

Lack of knowledge or experience is not an acceptable defence for getting something wrong, so if you unsure how to comply, just call Jan or David on 01992 308181.
