Paul Mainds, Chief Executive and Trustee, River and Rowing Museum comments on the news that the London 2012 Olympic Flame will be coming to Henley:

I am delighted that after a year of hard work from everyone in Henley, the Olympic Flame is coming to our community.  The visit is a testament to our town’s sporting heritage, reflecting the Olympics of 1908 and 1948 when Henley had a starring role. Now the route has been revealed we look forward to planning how we can make the day an unforgettable occasion for everyone.  We don’t know who the Torchbearers will be, but we have a few torches from Olympic Games past if anyone wants to practice!

“The Museum is marking the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games with a major exhibition:
The Perfect Rower – 100 Years of Racing for Glory. In addition our Rowing Heritage initiative, Knowing Rowing, is already using the power of the Games to inspire the sports people of tomorrow.  Knowing Rowing has been awarded the prestigious Inspired By mark from LOCOG and we are delighted that the programme has had such an enthusiastic take up from local schools and rowing clubs.”

Congratulations to everyone in Henley.  We’ve got the London 2012 Olympic Flame coming to our Town and we should be hugely proud.”
