Get active this January in Haverhill

After the excesses of the Christmas holidays, the majority of us will be looking at eating, drinking and feeling healthier in the New Year.

With this in mind, thebestof Haverhill has some hints and tips that are sure to get the whole family active in January.

Treasure Hunt

Shake off that hangover (of course, I'm only talking to the over 18's here!) and take the family along to Haverhill's East Town Park on New Year's Day from 11am until 2pm for the New Year's Day Treasure Hunt. Stretch your legs - and your brains! - and follow the trail and solve the clues! Just £3 per family, there is no need to book - simply pick up your quiz sheet from East Town Park Centre.

Cycling

Say goodbye to the Quality Street and hello to the countryside around Haverhill by joining Haverhill Cycling Club! With no membership charges and group rides ranging from 10 to 50 miles organised throughout the year, it's a great way to meet like-minded people, enjoy the great outdoors and shift that extra roll (personally, I blame the Quality Street!)

Slimming

Now I'm not suggesting that you've eaten so much that you need to join a weight loss club, but if you are lacking that motivation and feel that the support and encouragement of others could help you reach that much-desired target weight (I still own clothes from 1998 in the vain hope that I'll still fit into them!), then Slimming World Haverhill could be the answer.

Meditation

Have the emotional worries and financial pressures of Christmas taken their toll? To many, the festive period can be incredibly stressful, and what is meant to be a holiday can often become a chore. Why not relax and rejuvenate your mind with the Eight Minute Meditation Course? As well as enabling you to change your life for the better in just eight minutes, the course is completely free!

Conservation

Get active and help conserve Haverhill at the same time! Why not join East Town Park's park rangers on January 9th 2012 and carry out a range of conservation tasks as part of a volunteer team? You will receive training, plus tea and biscuits (I'd suggest that you avoid the custard creams if you're planning on losing that excess weight!)

Please note that under 16's must be accompanied by an adult and under 18's must have parental permission. You don't have to book but please call 01440 710 745 to have a quick chat before coming along.

Hypnotherapy and Counselling

If you're prone to over-eating on a regular basis (not just for festive celebrations and the odd over-indulgence), thebestof Haverhill member and local recommended business, Indigo Hypnotherapy and Counselling will help you understand the root cause for your over-eating and help you shift the weight in a healthy, measured manner.
