Introducing our “Curry of the week” from local Indian Take Away Haverhill Tandoori
Name of Dish: Chicken Balti
All our baltis are served with a complimentary nan bread (Indian bread)
Ingredients: Balti paste, spices, butter, methi, coriander,
Method of cooking: Shallow fried onion, tomatoes, capsicum all blended with spices and then cooked in a cast iron kashmiri pan
Time of cooking: 10 minutes
Level of heat: Standard comes as medium but can be heated up according to taste such as can be made more spicy if required.
There is a difference of opinion as to the origin of the Balti curry. There are some who believe it originated in Baltistan in Kashmir whilst others believe the Balti was born in Birmingham in the 1980s, spreading in popularity to the rest of the UK in the 1990s.
All we know is it’s a very tasty and hearty curry – ideal for a cold wintery evening, especially when it can be delivered to your door for free if you live in Haverhill!
Try it with: We think the perfect appetizers for a Balti are onion bhajis and nan with chicken tikka.
Onion Bhaji - Gram flour mixed with onions and spices and then shallow fried into balls - we do 4 in a portion (Medium hot)
Nan with chicken tikka - BBQ cubes of chicken placed in nan bread and then rolled up to make it a chicken tikka roll (Mild-medium hot)
