The Red Lion public house in Manningtree is one of those special public houses, bars and inns. You know the kind of pubs - it's not quite possible to articulate what's so special about them but you know it when you see it. It's more than an excellent bar with a great range of competitively priced drinks, including real ales and carefully selected wines (all of which are available by the glass). It's more than a busy function room, regularly used by local groups including the Rotary Club and Tai Chi group as well as private parties, celebrations, exhibitions and business and charity events. It's more than a consistently popular selection of sell-out events with "Music Upstairs", with an emphasis on great acoustic music. It's more than providing fresh local produce for lunch every day, with tapas on Tuesdays, mussels & chips on Fridays and a late-lunch from 1 'til 6 on Sundays, with a bistro and traditional menu. Definitely more. Maybe it's just that those pubs feel a bit like home - comfortable, reassuring and relaxing. Whatever it is, it's good and Manningtree's Red Lion public house has it in spades.
