Welcome to the new blog

Hi and welcome to the new blog on thebestof harwich and manningtree.

I'll be posting regularly, talking about all the great businesses which have been recommended to us and also inviting debate about topics of local and national interest.

Anything which is worth discussing could be featured here or on my blogs on thebestof frinton and walton & thebestof clacton on sea.

We're also keen to get other people involved, so if you're interested in the possibilities of sharing your views and opinions with the rest of the local popualtion, please do get in touch. Again, you could talk about any issues that concern you, about hobbies, local events - more or less anything you like!

If you have a particular topic on which you are expert, you could contribute a regular piece on that or just have some varied input. We certainly want to hear from you though.

The weather's fantastic right now and it's a great time to have an evening out, maybe take in a great meal or some entertainment.

Why not check out some of the places other local people have recommended on the site? The Ship restaurant is one of our favourites - to see what The Ship at Old Harwich has on their current menu click here and while you're at it, read the reviews posted against their site features. Another great way to spend an evening is at The Red Lion in Manningtree - have a look at their feature under "Live Music".

Harwich has been awaiting development for some time now and we are still hopeful that something will happen soon. One thing that is in the pipeline to help attract day visitors, is a project to rebuild a replica of the Mayflower. You may also know that it sailed originally from Harwich nearly 400 years ago. I believe it is planned to build it using traditional techniques and to invite schools to participate which I believe is a wonderful idea. A cafe is also planned which I'm sure will entice a few more visitors. As you probably know, Harwich gets quite a few day trippers off the boats in port and I'm sure our American cousins will just love this attraction and hopefully, bring their spending money our way! Although the project won't benefit my personal business which is wills and trusts (Silver Lining Estate Planning), as I live in Dovercourt, I will certainly welcome anything that will help the prosperity of our area. More details later, but please add your comments. report abuse...
