The simplest solution is to eat less and exercise more.  Do it slowly, rapid loss will only lead to rapid gain.  Set yourself some goals and challenges.

Tips on Food:

  • Aim to eat more vegetable, less carbs, more protein and drink at least 2 litres of water a day.

  • Use a smaller plate

  • Avoid processed foods

  • Steam, boil or grill instead of frying

  • Harrogate Borough Council are doing a Fit 4 Life programme where you can learn essential information about the food you eat as well as offering an exercise class

  • Join a slimming club – Weight Watcher, Slimming World.... and get support from others trying to do the same.

  • Buy a book with healthy recipes – why not try something new?

Tips for Exercise:

  •  Aim to walk at least 30 mins a day if not more, get off the bus a stop sooner or walk up and down steps instead of taking a lift.
  • Join a sports club - learn to play squash, tennis, football, rugby...

  • Go to keep fit classes

  • Join a gym – many are now offering a ‘pay by month’ and they usually have instructors who can guide you

  • Dance or learn to dance – plenty of classes in and around Harrogate

  • Buy an exercise DVD and do it from your front room, but seek medical/expert advice first so you don’t get hurt.

  • Cycle – there are lots of biking events coming up in 2016, perhaps you will be participating in one of them?

  • Join a running club, challenge yourself to one of the various marathons and fun runs for 2016

  • Get a personal trainer

Most of all try to make it fun!

Good luck!
