Every year, the BBC promote Children in Need, it is their charity.  It raises money to help disabled children and young people in the UK.  They have an annual telethon, which is usually held in November, this year it’s on the 13th November 2015 and will start at 7.30pm and end about 2am.  The show has been running since 1980 and has raised over £600 million.  However, the charity appeal started in 1927, its first broadcast lasted 5 minutes on the radio.  The show features several celebrities and has performances from singers, newsreaders, west end musicals, as well as sketches from several tv programmes.

Terry Wogan has traditionally been the host for the event, however these days there are several presenters throughout the evening.

Their mascot is ‘Pudsey Bear’, he was created in 1985 by Joanna Lane, who was from Pudsey, West Yorkshire.

The BBC also do a telethon for Red Nose Day and Sport Relief, which alternate every March , both support the Comic Relief charity.
