Welcome to Spotlight on Africa

Harpenden Spotlight on Africa. A local charity seeking to alleviate poverty in Africa.

Spotlight on Africa (HSOA) is a relatively new charity which sets out to be the Town Charity. Started in Oct 2006, it aims to link the people of Harpenden with impoverished communities in sub-Saharan Africa to alleviate poverty there. In our first 21 months we have raised over £26,000 towards our first project, the development and support of a school in the refugee village of Musoto, near Mbale in Uganda. Musoto Christian School started in 2006 and uses the corners of the local church together with a temporary mud and reed structure for its classrooms. HSOA has been funding the school running costs (staff wages, education equipment and books, lunch meals etc) and will be having brick buildings erected and furnished to house the school. This charity is supported by the Harpenden Town Council and Rt Hon Peter Lilley is its Patron. Read more about us in the Newsletters and Business Plan posted in www.harpendensoa.org.uk
