Hanging The Star, the brainchild of singer/songwriter Alx Leeks, make their live debut with a special show at London’s Bush Hall on Friday 10th February.
Recently described in Classic Rock presents Prog magazine as “A fusion of Jethro Tull and Sigur Ros, with Kate Bush-inspired vocals and progtastic guitar solos”, the collective are already garnering a strong following, the appeal of the band’s music transcending perceived musical boundaries.
At the core of Hanging The Star are a variety of excellent musicians from the British jazz and soul scenes including percussionist Jimmy Norden (Beth Hirsch, Alice Russell), guitarist Michael Winawer (Daft Punk, Candy Statton) and bassist Adam King (Pete King, and regular member of Ronnie Scott’s house band). For the Bush Hall debut, British singer songwriter Beth Rowley (known for her work with Burt Bacarach, Katie Melua and Ron Sexsmith) will join Alx and her band, as will keyboard player and saxophonist Paul Silver (Lazy Habits, Finlay Quaye, Sophie Barker – Zero 7).
Last seen lending her own vocal talents to The Pineapple Thief’s recent acoustic set at the Kscope Night at London’s prestigious Union Chapel towards the end of 2011, leading fans of both The Pineapple Thief and headliners Anathema to pass comment on Leeks’ “breathtaking melancholy”. Hanging The Star will release their debut Concussion EP in January, whilst the full self-titled debut is set to follow in April 2012.
