Variety Club Day has taken place at Sandown Park for over 50 years and this year’s event, on Saturday 22nd August, is again set to be one of Sandown Park’s most popular racedays. As the school holiday’s draw to a close, it is a great excuse to take the whole family out for a great day at the Esher venue to support this worthwhile charity and to enjoy the free children’s entertainment, alongside the action from the track.
The racecourse is always packed full to bursting with celebrities on Variety Club Day and this year, Melinda Messenger, who performed so well in this year’s Dancing On Ice, will be present at the course, in her role as Face of the Day. James McQullian, a local to Sandown Park and one of the semi finalists in this year’s The Apprentice will also be enjoying the racing.
The relationship between Sandown Park and Variety Club is one of the longest running in horseracing and all those enjoying a trip to the races will also be supporting the charity, who work tirelessly to help sick, disabled and disadvantaged children and young people. The Variety Club is celebrating its 60th Anniversary in 2009 and all the stops will be pulled out to ensure that this is one of the best Variety Club Days yet.
There is also a strong family feel at the Esher venue on the day, with plenty of entertainment for the children. Fi Fi and Bumble, the popularcharacters from the hit show Fi Fi and the Flowertots, will be at the course along with face painting and bouncy castles to keep the little one amused. They’ll also be plenty for older children to enjoy, including horse hopper races with prizes to be won, while adults enjoy an afternoon in the sun, watching the races and enjoying the atmosphere.
Children aged 16 or under go free and all of the children’s entertainment is free of charge throughout the day.
