One of the UK’s leading cancer charities, Marie Curie Cancer Care is also one of the most pro-active charitable organisations working in Guildford and the surrounding area.
Marie Curie Cancer Care puts patients and families first by offering the quality of care and support that people with cancer and other illnesses need at the end of their life.
Marie Curie Cancer Care provides vital services, both nationally and on a local level, as well as running a charity shop in Eastgate Court, Guildford.
Established in 1948 - the same year as the NHS -
Marie Curie Cancer Care provides care for terminally ill patients in the community, offering a variety of services, including:
· Marie Curie Nurses - caring for up to 50% of all cancer patients who die at home and providing practical and emotional support for caregivers and family members
· Marie Curie Hospices - specialist support in a relaxed and caring environment
· Research and Innovation - palliative care and cancer treatments
Marie Curie Cancer Care has more than 2,700 nurses, doctors and healthcare professionals and nine hospices nationwide, making it the largest provider of such services outside the NHS and helping more than 31,000 people each year to have the choice of where and how to spend their final days.
The care and support the charity offers involves spending more than £80m per year.
Nationally, the charity needs to raise an incredible £10,000 every hour to continue to provide the vital services it offers to those with cancer and other life limiting illnesses and their families.
