Providing specialist education and life skills for children with autism spectrum disorders, Jigsaw School is one of the leading children’s charities and charitable organisations in the Guildford area and the only school of its kind in Surrey.
Jigsaw CABAS® School - educating children with autism spectrum disorders.
Situated in Dunsfold, Surrey, Jigsaw School is an independent day school and charity, founded in 1999 by a group of parents with autistic children. It is the only school of its kind in Surrey, improving the lives of autistic children and their families through education, training and research.
Jigsaw School is registered with the DfE to provide children between five and nineteen with autism spectrum disorders and related communication disorders a structured programme of intensive education and intervention based on the principles of ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis)
Since its inception over 10 years ago, Jigsaw School has expanded and now offers a primary and secondary resource for up to 44 children, as well as a Life Skills Centre that helps students achieve their full potential as they grow into adults.
Our long term aim is to expand further so that we can offer specialist college provisions for young adults.
Jigsaw School has a staffing ratio of one member of staff to each pupil, ensuring that children receive tailored, one-to-one support. Our broad and varied curriculum encompasses the National Curriculum, yet is geared to the specific needs of children with autism spectrum disorders and related communication disorders.
We firmly believe that it is this specialist, learner-centred curriculum, structured support and ongoing strategies for inclusion that is key to our children realising their potential.
What is CABAS®?
Developed at Teachers College, Columbia University, the Comprehensive Application of Behavioural Analysis to Schooling (CABAS®) is a system-wide, research-driven approach to education, which has been found to be effective in teaching children with autism and communication disorders.
As a CABAS® school, Jigsaw's curriculum is based around ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis), which is a structured teaching programme devoted to the understanding and improvement of human behaviour. ABA has been found to greatly improve the prospects of autistic children.
