Creaction Theatre Company - the best of community theatre - burst onto the Electric Theatre stage in Guildford in 1999 with a vibrant production of Willy Russell's Educating Rita.
This production, with Creaction's Artistic Director, Keith McDonald, at the helm brought together the best of local talent and won acclaim for all its aspects including powerful performances and imaginative setting. The company has gone on to provide Electric Theatre audiences with the finest entertainment in a diverse and impressive list of theatre productions including Teechers, Talking Heads, The Importance of Being Earnest, Antony and Cleopatra and a solo virtuoso performance of Shirley Valentine by co-founder Jane MacIntyre.
In 2000 MacIntyre teamed up with her Educating Rita partner Roland Butcher again to perform in Pinter's The Lover as part of a double bill for The Electric Theatres Millennium Festival of Drama, representing the best of 1960s theatre.
The company has built a reputation for its powerful and energetic performances and puts into practice the aim of creating a performance as a shared process between all members of the company actors, director and technical crew. Creaction Theatre Company sets itself the best of standards by always striving to meet new challenges and putting on a selection of impressive theatre productions.
Creaction Theatre Company also believes in sharing the process of creating a performance with others, and regularly presents pre-show talks with the Director and post show discussions with the company. Audiences enjoy finding out how artistic decisions were arrived at, and often students of English and theatre engage in a lively two-way debate to the benefit of both sides.
The theatre production company has demonstrated some of the rehearsal techniques used to create the best of performances both to post show audiences and at Electric Theatre open days.
Creaction is represented in the Association of local groups that support the Electric Theatre in Guildford, and has also been credited with hosting the best of Quiz Nights for the Friends of the Electric Theatre.
Co-founders Keith McDonald and Jane MacIntyre and Technical Director Charles Hope believe in the power of drama to help young people gain the best of confidence and life skills.
Creaction Theatre Productions, regularly present annual weekend performance workshops for youngsters at the Electric Theatre and in association with the YMCA provides presentation skills training for The Princes Trust in Guildford.
