Hi all, with Guildford baking in all this sunshine, who needs pricey foreign holidays? Not only are more of us choosing to 'holiday' on our back doorstep than ever before - but an increasing number of Europeans are picking South East England as their holiday destination. So - a question for you - what are the best places in & around Guildford to visit when the weather's like this? Places of interest, gorgeous gardens, cosy restaurants, riverside pubs... come on Guildfordians, share your secrets! report abuse...

Hi Helen, thanks for posting on our new Blog .... the obvious recommendation is Guilfest in about a week - if the weather is good it is a great day/evening out - it is featuered on the site both as an event and as a business ... reasonably priced drinks with short queues, reasonable take away food stalls and of course constant music on top of which it is totally safe for kids if you have them - I'll be there ! If you fancy a meal in Guildford, try Olivetto - (on this site) they are offering a free meal for parties from 2 to 4 - you can print a voucher off from the site, take it along and they will honour it against their bill - I think it excludes the obvious busy nights of Friday and Saturday but it's perfect if you fancy a meal out during he week. report abuse...

Hi Helen If you like gardens and sculptures go to Hannah Peschar Sculpture Garden in Ockley just outside Guildford. If you want to escape the sun, then of course, come to an air conditioned gym, ActivZone for a work out! :) report abuse...

Hi Sherrilyn, I think I'm a little late in coming back to you - real apologies - but if you come down to Guildford again, I can recommend the Mandolay Hotel - really lovely, central location and extremely reasonable, price-wise. What did you think of Guilfest? Helen report abuse...

Problems - has anyone had problems posting here ? If you have and have installed Windows Internet explorer 8 recently can I suggest that you re-install the previous version - Version 8 is a nightmware and seems to be causing a problem with virtually every package I use. report abuse...

Hi Guildford, did you know that the 2009 British Science Festival is coming to Guildford next month? The itinerary looks great - see for yourself at: www.britishsciencefestival.org. There are some very good events for children, too. Do you think science is promoted enough in schools - and if not, what can we do to get kids interested? report abuse...
