Autumn is on its way and with it comes the celebrated Guildford Book Festival.

This year’s impressive line-up includes everything from crime and romance to poetry and history, including some great talks and guided tours of Guildford town itself from local historians David Rose and Martin Giles.

Household names such as Pam Ayres, Johnny Ball, Martin Bell, Celia Imrie and Lynne Truss also make an appearance.

And for those looking for a girls’ night out, The Electric Theatre is playing host to the Girls’ Night package hosted by author, journalist and after-dinner speaker Jane Wenham-Jones.

Personally, I prefer the more historic female focus in the form of a discussion around Jane Austen’s women – were Lizzie Bennett, Fanny Price, Marianne Dashwood et al really the epitome of women in Georgian Britain?

The 2011 Guildford Book Festival runs from 13-22 October.  For more information and to book your tickets visit: www.guildfordbookfestival.co.uk
