'Where the Land Meets the Sea' - an exhibition by Gill Harrison

Welcome to my 2024 exhibition. I have called it ‘Where the Land Meets the Sea’ as my inspiration has mainly come from the ever-changing coastline of this island.

I have lived in Guernsey for over 30 years and am inspired daily by the ever-changing colours of light on the sea. I paint in watercolour and oils. My creativity often comes from the interface between the water and the land - reflections in the sand and unfolding scenery as the tides ebb and flow.

I am also fascinated by the distortions and patterns created by light travelling through, and reflecting off, the water. I am enjoying the challenge of seeking to capture this in paint.

I also continue to be intrigued by the cyanotype process. It’s a camera-free form of photography, where the image is developed by sunlight to create a cyan blue print. I have been enjoying experimenting and combining it with paint.

I hope you enjoy these pieces of art and through them can see my love of the ever-changing landscapes of this beautiful island.

The light, the sparkles and the beautiful blues…
