PLEASE CALL IF URGENT
The Guernsey Hedgehog Rescue Centre was officially set up as a charity at the beginning of 2005. The centre at Penrose Farm had been taking in hedgehogs since 2001 and it had become apparent that there was a need for an animal welfare society that would provide a properly funded centre to care for the hedgehogs of Guernsey.
The aims of this animal welfare society are:
1. To care for and rescue injured, sick or orphaned hedgehogs under veterinary supervision, guidance and assistance and to release them when assessed to be fit and capable of surviving in the wild.
2. To raise public awareness about hedgehogs and the various hazards they face, and to encourage children's interest in and respect for hedgehogs in Guernsey.
3. To provide assistance in scientific research into hedgehogs and hedgehog behaviour.
The Guernsey Hedgehog Rescue Centre is staffed entirely by volunteers, capably led by Dawn Robin. Dawn has in-depth and extensive knowledge of the care, welfare, and rehabilitation of hedgehogs. Dr Toni Bunnell, a lecturer in biological sciences at Hull University, has also provided hedgehog animal welfare advice.
