Quite recently a friend and I went to San Miguel, a Spanish Tapas bar and restaurant in Greenwich. It is a wonderful place, like stepping into another country.
The atmosphere and staff are warm and welcoming, when you enter through the doors it is like walking into a friendly embrace. Our waiter was Huseyin, a small wiry man with a quick smile and the ability to multi-task effectively at everything! He was attentive without being obtrusive, ensuring our satisfaction at all times whilst juggling serving food, emptying tables, waitering drinks and getting orders, smiling at everyone. All the staff were the same, each and every person who visited the restaurant were made to feel special, valued customers arriving, friends when leaving. An extraordinary place really, delightful holiday evoking décor of old Spain, the mountain regions, the history and people.
With an extensive menu one was spoilt for choice, Tapas, Fish dishes, Steaks and much much more. The food was wonderful, tasty, hot, and spicy, filling, beautifully cooked to perfection, the house wine was chilled to the correct temperature, which we drank slowly, the food was superb, and we savoured each mouthful, commenting on the subtle delicate flavours of one dish and the rich aromatic sauce in another. Although nearly full we decided to follow dinner with a pudding each, which were also delectable, scrumptious and big portions!
Then the eating became secondary as we watched a Flamenco dancer accompanied by a superb guitarist, she was slight, tiny, waif like, yet when she danced her whole body and demeanour changed and she became pure woman, lost in a dance of story telling. Face concentrating, back arching, her thin arms become willowy her feet tap out in time to the notes on the guitar and he, she and the music became one.
The whole evening had been highly pleasing and agreeable to the senses in every way, and I would highly recommend it to any one.
