Shot by renowned camera-man Paul Barton Marionette's Conundrum presents an idiosyncratic, funny view into this fantastical world of sculpture superbly brought further to life through the evocative sound-track that accompanies the film. This stunning cyberspace stage for Andrew's award winning work is redolent of his unique style and passion for sculpture that is manifest in all his work. This video offers you another facet of Andrew's work wherein his sculptures come alive in a surreal and amusing take on the creation of sculpture.
Andrew Sinclair ARBS has fast become one of the UK's rising stars in the field of surrealist and figurative sculpture. Whilst Andrew does not have formal classical art training his exceptional skills in screen printing, clay modelling and as a bespoke cabinet maker give him an eye for detail that are attributable to his rapid upsurge in the world of sculpture.
It is second nature for Andrew really identify with the creative briefs given to him. This inborn trait together with his devotion to producing the ultimate piece has resulted in a not inconsiderable number of highly acclaimed sculptures appear in the entrances of blue chip corporations, in country homes, in urban spaces as well as on cruise ships.
Andrew's career started with portrait sculpture and he continues to be fascinated with the technical aspect of capturing the likeness of his subject sculpturally. But, although resemblance is obviously as essential part of the piece, Andrew's interpretation extends beyond that and encapsulates the spirit which intensifies the character of the sculpture. This is notable in his sculpture of Sir Tim Rice who he quite rightly understood as a modest man who would flinch at the thought of a portrait sculpture of just him. To balance this Andrew added references to other major influences in Sir Tim's life such as his love of cricket and of course the ubiquitous theatre productions.
Figurative work is unquestionably an ardent passion for Andrew. Although he loves the classical styling of Renaissance artists such as Giambologna and Bernini Andrew has developed his own approach to figurative realism. It has produced pieces such as the bronze armoured figure and silver sconces installed as part of the restoration of Sir Thomas More's Crosby Hall in Chelsea and commissioned by Christopher Moran. Royal Ascot commissioned Andrew to produce the Royal Coat of Arms which was hung above the viewing suite for Queen Elizabeth II.
Andrew is hugely gifted and when his imagination runs riot it hones in on the bizarre fantasy aspect which has been around since man started sculpting and painting. The result is some fantastical and allegorical sculptures, both dark and humorous, which even if you don't love them will always remind you of the immense talent Andrew has.
Andrew's rise as one of the UK's most creative figurative, portrait and surrealist sculptors of current times has seen commissions from a great many sources including:
