Many animal welfare societies rescue stray animals in and around Frinton and Walton but who helps when rescue dogs are discovered to be aggressive or have behavioual problems? That's where Spirit of the Dog comes in. An animal welfare society which works together with local societies like Clacton Animal Aid & the RSPCA, Spirit of the Dog aims to resolve behavioural issues in rescue dogs and make rehoming practical.
Professional behaviourists Claudine Tisbury and Jane Nettleton developed the concept of Spirit of the Dog and Trevor Hayward now chairs a committee of 11 for this animal welfare society. Volunteers help with rescue dogs as & when needed, providing fostering facilities after rescuing by other welfare societies throughout the Frinton and Walton area.
Spirit of the Dog initially set out to raise sufficient funds to become a registered charity and have now achieved that status. Their next goal is to get the money to buy land & build a Spirit of the Dog rehabilitation centre, so that they won't only be able to work with the rescue dogs at the premises of other animal welfare societies in the Frinton and Walton region.
Whilst there are sometimes chances to rehome animals from Spirit of the Dog directly, what they really need is donations and help with fundraising.
